About this school

The Ma'had (Machad) Institute is the Islamic studies institute of Abubakar As-Saddique Islamic Center (AAIC) at 2824 13th Avenue South in south Minneapolis, a mosque founded in 1998 that serves a largely Somali community. Classes meet on Saturdays and Sundays: a six-semester high-school level for students aged 14 and up who can read and write Arabic and have memorized part of the Quran, an associate's level in Sharia sciences for students 18 and up with an Islamic high-school diploma, and bachelor's and postgraduate study in Sharia sciences on weekend afternoons. Learning the Quran is a core objective at every level, and graduates of the center's weekend dugsi move into the institute at 16. Parents apply at the center office (extension 8 for the Ma'had), and placement is decided by an Arabic reading and writing test.
